WEST NEWBURY, MA – A man from Peabody sustained critical wounds during an accident in West Newbury early this morning after he reportedly fled from a traffic stop.
According to NBC Boston, the accident happened near 170 Main Street at 12:36 a.m. A police officer spotted a vehicle with a missing headlight and front tire, and initiated a traffic stop.
The 38-year-old driver, however, continued without stopping. A mile away, the vehicle collided with a fence, and then a tree.
He was airlifted to the hospital in Boston for the treatment of critical, life-threatening injuries.
He had reportedly been operating the vehicle without proper registration.
