Attorney Jonathan N. Soto, Esq.
To Jonathan N. Soto, the most fulfilling aspect of practicing law is being in the courtroom.
“You have an opportunity to present your argument in front of a judge and zealously advocate for your client while opposing counsel is trying to do the same thing,” he says. “It’s a great exchange and a great way to see both sides of the story, but it’s ultimately about winning.”
Law School and Internships
Jonathan has had his sights set on being a trial lawyer ever since his undergraduate years at Salem State College. Initially interested in a law enforcement career, he received a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He then enrolled at New England Law in Boston, knowing that he wanted to develop and hone his trial skills along with a broad base of legal knowledge.
He took part in the school’s Criminal Procedure Clinical Program, which provided him the opportunity to represent clients in Boston Municipal Court. He also worked in Essex County Superior Court, interning for Judge David Lowy as a law student and for Clerk Magistrate Tom Driscoll when he was an undergraduate.
Forming Kelly & Soto Law
As Jonathan and classmate Michael D. Kelly approached the conclusion of their legal educations, they decided to venture out on their own. Following law school, they opened the doors of Kelly & Soto Law and currently operate out of Boston’s historic North End, a location that he feels symbolizes the mission of Kelly & Soto Law.
“The North End is very community and family oriented. There are many unique and personal touches in the North End which really distinguish it from other areas of Boston. That’s what Mike and I do for our clients. We concentrate on providing a personal touch that is unique from other firms, while still getting the big results. We want our clients to know that they can call our office and speak with an attorney, not a computer.”
“Client satisfaction is my number one priority, whether it’s a substantial settlement on the civil side or a dismissal or not guilty verdict on the criminal side. If the client isn’t satisfied, then we’re not satisfied, and that is what pushes us to exceed client expectations,” he says.
Jonathan is passionate about his work and also feels a commitment to the North End neighborhood where he and Kelly have chosen to set up their practice. Both partners enjoy working with youth and volunteer as baseball coaches for the North End Athletic Association.
Among his personal interests, Jonathan enjoys cooking and travel.
