The collision occurred near Rutherford Avenue and Chelsea Street at about 11 a.m., when 92-year-old Francis McGrath was struck by a vehicle, possibly a box truck. McGrath was dragged about a quarter of a mile after being hit.
The driver left the scene after the collision, but authorities detained a vehicle of interest soon after the accident.
The accident led authorities to close the intersection for multiple hours, leading to traffic delays and detours.
