92-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Charlestown Hit-and-Run Crash

January 7, 2021

BOSTON, MA – A 92-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Charlestown on Tuesday morning, according to WHDH and WCVB.

The collision occurred near Rutherford Avenue and Chelsea Street at about 11 a.m., when 92-year-old Francis McGrath was struck by a vehicle, possibly a box truck. McGrath was dragged about a quarter of a mile after being hit.

The driver left the scene after the collision, but authorities detained a vehicle of interest soon after the accident.

The accident led authorities to close the intersection for multiple hours, leading to traffic delays and detours.

Authorities are conducting interviews and reviewing security footage of the accident during their ongoing investigation of the crash.
